Why Do We Need Fish Oil in our Diet?

Forever Living Product’s Arctic Sea fish oil is a valuable source of omega 3 fatty acids

Many of are aware that fish oils play an important part in maintaining healthy body functions, but how many of us really know just how we benefit from it?

DHA Omega-3 occurs naturally within the body, but is particularly abundant in the brain, eyes and heart and ensures that the brain, retina, nervous system and other parts of the nervous system develop and function correctly throughout our life. It is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties and is therefore particularly good for helping to maintain healthy joint function.

There are a number of reasons why you should include fish oils in your diet, however, the three widely acknowledged reasons are that it:

  • Helps to Maintain a Healthy Heart
  • Helps to Maintain a Healthy Cholesterol Level
  • Supports Concentration and Brain Activity  Levels

There are some things to realise about omega fatty acids – there are actually three different types, 3, 6 & 9, but only two of them are essential fatty acids (EFA) and that’s 3 & 6. Omega-9 can  be manufactured by the body from unsaturated fat, so is not considered to be essential.

It is important to get the correct balance of DHA Omega-3 and EPA Omega-6 which should be in the range of 1:1 up to 1:4 (DHA:EPA). Omega-6 in higher concentrations  strikes an unhealthy balance as it is traditionally derived from fried foods, vegetable oils, spreadable butter products and convenience & processed foods.

It’s all very well, taking steps to supplement your health (not just with fish oils), but it can prove to be somewhat of a false economy by buying cheap, low quality products, especially if you have to take more of them to achieve a benefit.

Cod Liver Oil is widely (and very cheaply) available on the High Street; as the liver is one of the organs of the body that filters waste products and toxins (environmental pollutants, known as dioxins) in the body, it stands to reason that a certain degree of those toxins will invariably find their way into the end product and ultimately, into you.

Surprisingly, legally, there is an acceptable level of toxins allowed in products for human consumption (!!) and a high street brand had their cod liver oil product recalled a few years ago following higher-than-acceptable levels of dioxins.

Higher quality products use oils derived from the flesh of the fish, rather than the liver and the fish Forever Living’s Arctic Sea uses is sourced from, you guessed it, the Arctic Sea, which is one of the cleanest waters on the planet. Its unique formulation provides the perfect balance of DHA Omega-3 and EPA Omega-6, the two principal fatty acids which promote health and wellness.
